General Spoiler Warning: This post will dive into the events leading up to Kingdom Hearts 3 so beware of spoilers for all previous games. When Ventus failed in Xehanort's tests, forcefully removes the darkness in Ventus' heart using his Keyblade. This darkness becomes Vanitas. This all leaves Ventus in a coma and he is brought by Xehanort to the Destiny Island. This creates a connection between the two. From there, Ventus is brought to serve under Master Eraqus as a student.
