Abstract In this short review, different phenomena that are triggered by the interaction of different compounds or clusters of compounds with electron-deficient systems, in particular beryllium and boron compounds, have been discussed in some detail. Keywords: acidity enhancement ; cooperativity ; Distinguished Women in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering ; electron and anion sponges ; electron-deficient systems ; ion-pair formation ; non-covalent interactions.

So, the diborane ring is held by 4 electrons while 2 electrons spread over three atoms.
This does not satisfy the octets of all atoms simultaneously. Thus, it is an electron deficient molecule. Thus B2H6 is an electron deficient component. In Borane BH 3 the Boron atom is surrounded by 6 electrons, so it is electron deficient due to its incomplete octet.
